About this resource

Johannes Köhler and colleagues compared a wearable-based animated patient avatar with conventional data presentation in a computer-based study involving 67 ward patients. Brief simulated scenarios tested perception and recall of vital-sign deviations. The study reports improved performance with the avatar presentation in this experimental setting. It examines how patients understand displayed information; it does not demonstrate improved outcomes from continuous wearable monitoring in clinical practice. Max Ebensperger’s and Tadzio Roche’s posts describe this same publication.
