From Synthetic Vision to Patient Monitoring

The Avatar and the model of the Swiss Cheese Model had a very safe trip from the Institute of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine Universitätsspital Zürich to the Universidad de Valladolid for Simposio BioCritic GIR 2025: Innovación y vanguardia en medicina crítica. They travelled on the Helvetic Airways E2-Jet, the first airliner equipped with a standard synthetic vision system. ✈️ On the flight deck, the pilots told me they love it: “because so much moves on the screen.” 👩‍✈️ A day earlier in the PACU, a student said almost the same thing: “I doubt I would have noticed so many changes on the monitor without the avatar.” 👩‍⚕️ 💡 That’s improving #SituationAwareness by making the relevant information more salient. Hospital Universitario del Río Hortega in Valladolid was the first in Spain to implement the avatar, and now, many more are following.
